Reports on Activities in the Education Sector

The Museum provides excellent resources for the study of history, both recent and ancient, for the schools in our area and this is a report from our Schools and Education team who are very active in liaising and working with all the local educational establishments.

Educational Outreach

Over the past year, students, staff and parents have come to the museum, teachers have borrowed resources for school use and presentations and activities in schools have been organized by the educational outreach team. In brief: May 2008 – Year 1 group visit the museum to study laundering Victorian clothes, the Victorian kitchen and the Victorian Dairy.
April – Group year 9 students from Mildenhall College of Technology come to the museum to study the Mildenhall Treasure.
May – The World War 2 artefacts are loaned to the History department of Mildenhall College of Technology. Later, three adults who are ‘friends of the museum’ visit the school and give presentations of their personal memories of wartime. 
May – Mildenhall students and staff come to the museum for an introductory visit , looking at the RAF room and the farming exhibits. 
July – A group of Boys Brigaders and adults came on a general visit to the museum. 
September – The box of Victorian toys is used for an adult outreach talk. 
September – The Victorian toys are used in a presentation for year 1 students, and the box is loaned to a Primary school in Brandon. 
October – A talk and activities are organized for year 4 students focusing on the Mildenhall Treasure and Roman History. 
December – Year 1 students visit the museum to learn about Victorian Life, and the Educational Outreach team visit the school and orgainize a presentation and activities with the Victorian toys.
