Niello Dish
This is so named because
niello (silver sulphide) has been used as an inlay to areas of incised geometric
patterns, thus providing a black contrast to the silver.
These designs, which include plant derived scrolls and rosettes, provide
a gentle contrast with the remaining plain areas of the dish.
The
Niello Dish is nearly as large as the Great Dish, being 55.6cm in diameter.
The original weighs 5.023Kg.
